Drum/Tabla Project:
Aavartan

Specifically aimed at schools and colleges.

Performers:
Alpesh Moharir - Tabla, Bol (vocal rhythms) & Percussion
Paul de Gallier - Drum Kit, Cajóns & Percussion

Content:
Through the use of classical Indian rhythmic measures, fused with western and Afro Cuban styles, the
performers will present an exciting event using many varied percussion instruments.
Drums and percussion will be played using hands and an array of beaters, sticks and tubes.

Aim:
1: Facilitate an understanding of the culture surrounding classical Tabla playing.
2: Illustrate how differing rhythms and styles can be fused in a musically coherent way.
3: Demonstrate various playing styles and techniques.
4: End the performance with a small piece arranged and devised on the day using structured audience participation.

Participation:
Structured participation is encouraged and the venue is invited to distribute their own in-house percussion instruments amongst the audience.
It will not be a problem if instruments are limited, as the use of clapping and vocalisation will also be a core element.
Questions are to be welcomed.

Duration:
Minimum 1 hour.
A longer session can be arranged dependant on the venue course/teaching requirements.

Space:
A minimum space of 4mts x 2mts is required.

Cost:
1 hour event: £150 ~ A longer event would be negotiable on a pro rata basis
