The Management Committee Elections
The Paul Bell continued as Chair of the committee.
Sue Biddle stepped down as Vice Chair & Denise Gowan has taken over her role, we wish Denise well in her new position.

The purpose of the e-mail is firstly inform you of the changes proposed and currently taking place in the ‘Policing for You’ work stream of Demand Management in Nottinghamshire Police and secondly to ask for feedback on the subject areas.
Just to put the whole subject area into context Demand Management currently comprises of two Control Rooms one at Mansfield and the other at Arnold, which are at the centre of all the calls for assistance coming into the Force area. These calls are filtered through a centralised Switchboard. Demand Management annually deals with around:
§ 260,000 Emergency calls (999’s)
§ 460,000 Non-Emergency calls
§ 440,000 created incidents, which require Police action
§ Over I Million calls to the Switchboard
§ Demand Management also provide Critical Incident Management to incidents including Firearms, Terrorism and natural incidents such as the recent flooding.
§ The department also deal with the Security Alarms compliance, Vehicle recoveries and abnormal loads travelling on our County roads.
Why are we changing? We are responding to numerous reports including ‘First Contact’ and ‘Beyond the Call’ that have examined how the Police Forces throughout the Country deal with Demand.
We have also recognised that to improve how Nottinghamshire Police deals with calls for assistance we need to ‘Put the customer at the centre of the service we provide.’
To this end we are developing a customer service culture in all our staff with a focus on providing a high quality bespoke service that recognises individual customer needs.
What are the changes?
Introduction of a Customer Service Desk
We will still continue to provide call handling, dispatch and control of all calls for emergency via 999 but in support of this there will be dedicated staff available to provide a much more comprehensive service to non emergency callers. These staff will make every effort to resolve issues at the first point of contact –a ‘one stop shop’ principle.
A centralised recording of crime in the Service Desk will allow full details of crimes to be recorded on first contact, crime numbers given and a full assessment made as to whether an officer should attend. The right appropriate resource to an accurately assessed incident.
This should improve the callers experience and allow real problem solving activity to take place as full engagement of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams and other resources can be explored. It also allows extensive Partnership opportunities to be pursued.
Introduction of a Managed Incident Car
We have introduced from April 2008 a Managed Incident Car on each area that works on a diary appointment system for non-emergency calls. If there is a need for an officer to attend a crime scene then an agreement will be reached between the caller and control room operator as to the time and day it is convenient to attend. There will be dedicated resources on each area that will keep a diarised appointment to attend within 72hours of the initial call. This practice puts the needs of the customer at the forefront of our service and makes best use of Police resources avoiding costly duplication.
Other Work in progress
We are introducing ‘Real Time Intelligence’ into both Control Rooms. By increasing the accessibility of officers to all Intelligence sources they will be better informed when attending incidents. They will then be able to provide a more appropriate response having full knowledge of the location, crime trends and current priorities of any locality. The Force is introducing mobile data devices for all officers so that name/vehicle checks and access to intelligence can be achieved without returning to the station.
Single Non Emergency Number (SNEN)
Currently there are 12 different numbers to contact Nottinghamshire Police dependent on STD Code and where you live in the County.
We are currently working on the feasibility of Nottinghamshire Police moving to a single, easy to remember, Non Emergency Number. This will allow greater ease of contact for the public with the Police and avoid inappropriate calls being made on the 999 systems.
Voicemail
A Voicemail facility is being introduced for all staff. This will allow callers to leave messages for officers and Police staff if they are unable to speak with them direct at the time. This process will be closely monitored to ensure that messages are accessed on a regular basis. This will improve the public/police contact and getting back to people.
Command and Control System
Nottinghamshire Police is investing in a new computer system to improve our data capture and resource dispatch to incidents. This will allow us to improve our response times and allow dispatch of the most appropriate resource to attend calls for assistance.
