Notes for Theophile 'Tuffield' Peat:

In 1920 Easthampton, Hampshire, MA: Tuffield Pete 24 (cotton mill/weaver), wife Gertrude 22, & daughter Anita P. 17 months, and his sister-in-law Isabella Seymore 18.

In 1930 Brattleboro, Windham, VT: Tuffield Peters 35 (cotton mill/weaving), wife Gertrude M. 33, and children Anita M. 12, Albert A. 10, Teresa S. 8, Oliver E. 5, Eugene L. 4, Roland L. 3, & Florence 1.

Contribution from grandson Edward O. Pete:

My grandparents Tuffield & Gertrude moved to Cambridge, Maryland in the 1930's.  The children's last name I believe was spelled Pete.  I do not know why this is but there have been tales that Tuffield was a bootlegger in the Prohibition Period and changed his name.
