Massena Observer, Thursday, 21 April 1904:  Charles Lashomb a section hand on the R. W. & O. railroad at this place lost his index finger on the right hand at the first joint last Sunday.  He was engaged in repairing a switch when one of the other men threw the lever, catching Lashomb's finger and cutting it completely off.
 

Obituary:  Massena Observer, Thursday, 8 June 1950:  C.J. Lashomb passes away at age of 87:  Watertown: Charles J. Lashomb,87, of 450 Cross St., retired New York Central Railroad employee and former resident of Massena, died at 6:50 Wednesday morning, June 7, 1950, in the Mercy Hospital, where be had been a patient since May 28.  Death was caused by a stroke.  Mr. Lashomb, who resided with a daughter, Mrs. Arthur A. (Maud) Buck, 450 Cross St., was in his usual good health until Sunday morning, May 28, when he was suddenly stricken ill while at the Buck cottage at Guffin's bay.  He was brought by ambulance to the hospital, where he failed steadily until his death.  His wife, Mrs. Addie Sharlow Lashomb, also 87 years old, died Aug. 11, last, at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Roy T. (Rose M.) Squier, at Watertown Center, where Mr. and Mrs. Lashomb then resided.  Surviving Mr. Lashomb, besides the two daughters, Mrs. Buck and Mrs. Squier, are another daughter, Mrs. Arthur A. (Delia) McMann, Champion; a son, Leonard J. Lashomb, city; a brother, Frank Lashomb, Massena; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Another daughter, Mrs. Claude E. (0rma) Simonette of Massena, died Aug. 3, 1945 in the Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensdurg.  Mr. Lashomb was born at Brasher Falls, July 3, 1862, a son of the late John and Sophia Crapser Lashomb.  He attended school at Brasher Falls.  Later he moved to Massena, where for many years he was an employee of the New York Central Railroad.  He was superintendent having charge of maintenance and repairs of rolling equipment.  On July 4, 1883, he married Miss Addie Sharlow of Massena in Massena.  Mr. And Mrs. Lashomb resided in Massena until about 29 years ago when they came to this city.  For a time he was employed as car repairman by the railroad here, retiring about 20 years ago.  Except for a period of years when he lived with his son, Leonard, on a farm on the Cemetery Road and a period of 16 months when he resided at the Squier home at Watertown Center, he had lived in this city since leaving Massena.

Obituary:  Massena Observer, Monday 15 August 1949:  Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bobian, Mrs. Joseph LaShomb, Cook St. Rd., and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pratt, 18 Grinnel Ave., attended the funeral of their aunt, Mrs. Charles LaShomb, in Watertown Saturday morning.  She was the former Miss Addie Sharlow and was born in Brasher.  The family lived here until about 25 years ago when they moved to Watertown.  Surviving are the parents and four children.

 

Obituaries for the children:

Orma Lashomb:  Massena Observer, Friday, 3 August 1945:  Mrs. Orma Simonette, 58, wife of Claude E. Simonette, local freight and passenger agent, died in Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg at 7:30 o’clock this morning.  Mrs. Simonette had been in failing health for the past two or three years.  She had been in the hospital for two months.  A son, Francis Rolland Simonette, has been serving in France and Germany, and it had been hoped that he would be given an emergency furlough.  He may be enroute home.  His unit is moving from the European theater to the Pacific, with a 30-day furlough in the States.  Mrs. Simonette was born in Brasher, June 1, 1887, a daughter of Charles and Ada Sharlow Lashomb, now residing on State St., Watertown.  She was educated in the local schools and in early life was married to Mr. Simonette.  They lived in Massena, Adams, and Watertown, then returned to Massena.  Surviving are her parents in Watertown; husband; three children,

Mrs. L. E. (Mildred) Fick, Champlain, Reginald Simonette, Norwood, and Pfc. Francis Simonette, U S. Army; one brother, Leonard Lashomb, Watertown: three sisters, Mrs. Roy T. (Rose) Squir, Watertown; Mrs. Arthur (Delia) Oaks, Carthage, Mrs. Arthur (Maude) Buck, Watertown.  Mrs. Simonette was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.  Funeral services will be held in that church, the day yet to be decided.

 

Leonard J. Lashomb:  Massena, NY Observer; Tuesday 17 May 1977: Watertown - Leonard J. LaShomb, 86, formerly of 104 S. Hamilton St., a Massena native, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at the Ryan Nursing Home where he had resided the past four years.  Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Simpson Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church.  Burial was made in Glenwood Cemetery.  Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Rose Squier, Watertown Center loop; two nephews, Reginald Simonette, Norwood, and Roland Simonette, Rochester; three nieces, Mildred Simonette, Massena and Florida, Mrs. Leoma Gross, Carthage, and Mrs. Retha Beyer, 139 N. Hamilton St.  Three sisters, Mrs. Maude Buck, Mrs. Delia McMann and Mrs. Orma Simonette, predeceased him and a brother, died in infancy.  He married Mrs. Sophia Demo Jessmer years ago.  She died July 23, 1965, at the age of 82.  He operated a grocery store in Massena before serving with the Army in War I with duty in Europe.  Following his discharge, he moved to the Watertown section and operated a fox farm at Watertown Center.  He also operated farms and bought and sold farm real estate.
