Sketchbook - A Story of Survival
by Judy & Stuart Dewey
Based on the war-time diaries of artist Will
Wilder and illustrated with reproductions of many of the
drawings he did while a prisoner-of-war of the Japanese. This is
a remarkable insight into the unassuming courage and
determination of a man who not only survived the rigours of
working on the Burma railway, but also risked his life to dupe
his Japanese captors into buying artists' materials and
subsequently to smuggle these remarkable drawings, mostly of his
fellow prisoners and camp life, all the way back home. A moving
but heart-lifting story, with some of the finest war-time
drawings ever made in the field.

Payne
& Son - Two Centuries of a Family Firm
Judy & Stuart Dewey
This is the story of a family which two centuries ago began an
association with watch and clock making, the jewellery trade and
silversmithing which continues today. The Paynes came from
yeoman stock but by their success at business they rose socially
to become respected members of the community, several being
elected Mayors of Wallingford and Abingdon at various times. The
family business expanded greatly from its original Wallingford
shop to form branches in Abingdon, Banbury, Tunbridge Wells and
Oxford - the latter specialising in silver. This booklet
celebrates the bi-centenary of the original family firm. The
centre pages feature a family tree from the 17th to the 20th
centuries.
