"The first one is from at concert i was at glasgow, i sat in the front row and got some really nice shots, i think it was ISO 2400 film. Second was taken at christmas in george sq in glasgow. The last two were in the old jewish cemetary in prague, its a very moody place so i thought black and white was the only option." (Sean Clarke, Glasgow)

Violinist
This is a very successful picture, considering that it was taken during a concert. The only snag is the grain - but that, of course, is the cost of having to use such a very fast film.

Your photo on the left is again well exposed, but everything seems to be leaning over to the right, so, on the right, I've tried straightening it out.

Prague Jewish cemetery
The problem with this picture of the Jewish cemetery in Prague is that you can't really see what it is! Color might have made it look less confusing.
This is a much more successful photo. It might have meant even more, though, if we could have seen the boundary of the cemetery so that we could see how far it extends. But it's certainly a photogenic subject and makes a really effective picture.

Reply from Sean Clarke: "Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. Re the first picture of the gravestone, I have a couple of shots of the same stone but I felt that the one I chose although admittedly more abstract resulted in a much more striking image. Also the place was crawling with tourists making it a lot more difficult to take wide angle shots with the subject in isolation. The address to my site is: http://communities.msn.co.uk/SeansPortfolio."

"Hi. My name is Geoff Brown. I'm from Ithaca NY. I would love to hear your opinion on this photo of my wife, Marin. It was actually taken during an assignment for a basic photography class, but due to time constraints, etc..., I was not able to share and have critiqued this particular shot (except for the contact sheet). This roll was my first ever attempt at portraits (head shot).Thanks."

This is certainly an unusual portrait, but you don't explain the distorted hands in the foreground. They look quite sinister - and the dramatic lighting effectively brings this out, but your wife doesn't look at all alarmed, so there seems a bit of a mismatch here. The result is nothing if not puzzling.

"Any tips would be great. Thanks." (Jason Ward)

Path Path lightened
Your photo on the left looks badly underexposed. On the right, I've tried lightening it. The result, I'm afraid, though, still isn't all that interesting, as, despite the gentle coloring, there's not really not too much to see here.

Seal cropped
Seal
Your photo on the left is very much more successful. Move in closer, as on the right, and you've got a really good picture.
