A personal view
by Philip Grosset

Above: glimpses of Viking life at a temporary encampment in Wilhorn Meadow. Some looked happier with their lot than others!

Weaving, Viking style. Your toe helps!
All the participants were members of a group specialising in Viking re-enactments.
Above: The boy trying on the helmet was one of the visitors. The girl with the embroidery was one of the participants.
Below: the Vikings come ashore! The boat was an accurate replica.

The Vikings get ready for battle. Or were these Anglo Saxons?

Let battle commence! I don't know who won - but as the real Vikings never actually got to St Ives (or Slepe as it was then), perhaps it doesn't really matter. But a good time was had by all!
