Activities and Trips
Physical Education
The children are able to enjoy a wide range of activities in P.E., all taught by a specialist teacher who is able to encourage the children to develop their abilities to the full and to share their enthusiasm. We are very fortunate in being able to hold swimming lessons every week of all school classes at Bedford School and Robinson Pool. Games lessons are held at Bedford School and Bedford Park. Bedford School have always kindly allowed us to hold our Sports Afternoon on their field every July.
Our aim at Acorn is to ensure that every child's potential in all subject areas is developed and encouraged to the full.
Children experience a variety of staff during their time at Acorn, and as a small school the staff know all the children very well, thereby creating a close relationship between staff children and parents.
Celebrations
We are very proud of your children are and they delight in sharing their successes with you. Throughout the year we invite you to join us in celebrating Christmas and our End of School Year celebrations at St Andrews Church along with a variety of other productions at school. Every child in the school participates - a wonderful opportunity.
Visits
Visits are made to local parks, museums and other places relevant to the curriculum.
School trips
At the end of every Summer Term, the nursery children and many parents go on a trip. They have visited a variety of places, including Ferry Meadows, Woodside, Standalone Farm and Lilford Park.
The school also visits places often connected with their work The Tower of London, The British Museum, Whipsnade to name a few. The annual trip of the year is a field trip for the third years. The first one was in April 1993. A valuable experience for all children concerned and an important step in a personal development.
Computers
We aim to give all the children experience with computers. These are also included as one of their extra-curricular activities. Other activities include gym club, recorders, choir and ballet.
