A few notes for those who may be interested
This site started off in 1998 as a personal list of airline sites, brought about by frustration in locating airlines when trying to book flights. Search engines frequently found travel agents rather than the airlines themselves, and the few places listing airlines' own websites often contained outdated or broken links, or annoying flashing or pop-up advertisements - as seems to still be the case today. Many such sites seem to just be in the numbers game, without ever checking the validity of links - pointless and disappointing for all concerned.
Just how many airlines are there? With a current total hovering around the 550 mark, it seems we have a long way to go. We are discovering and being told about new sites every week. We will quite likely at least double the number by the time we've finished. But then we'll never finish - what with mergers, acquisitions and the current global economic and political climate , the airline industry is constantly changing. Should you know of any airline not included, please do let us know, preferably with their URL (web site address) - if you can't find it, don't worry, we'll try to locate it.
Although our preference is to link to English language websites, this can be difficult for two reasons. Firstly, of course, the website may not have a live English version. Some smaller airlines have links on their sites which when clicked say something to the effect that the English version is under construction and should be working by late 1999 - yes, even in 2007! Secondly, there is a tendency for the URL of anything other than the main page of a domain to be changed over time, increasing the chances of broken links. Usually if there is an English language version of a foreign website, the main page to which we send you will contain a link to the English version.
Obviously, it is extremely time consuming to check all links on a regular basis, although we do try to find time as often as possible. Automated checking services are expensive for a not-for-profit site such as this - indeed, they don't always work as well as a personal check. For example, a holding page saying that an airline has suspended it's flights or has ceased trading would not be picked up as a useless link. Also, the type of site you may have seen in pop-ups (such as Casino 888) have increasingly been taking over high traffic domains which have become defunct, diverting hits to their site. There will be occasions when links fail to work due to network congestion, site maintenance or routing problems. We have had instances where new links have been added one minute and failed a few minutes later, only to reappear when checked half an hour after that!
All we ask in return for sharing this site with you is that you kindly consider advising us of any missing or broken links that you might find. All feedback will be gratefully received, checked, acted upon and acknowledged.
