CALVERTON 0 v 1 PINXTON FC

                                           Marriott 60

Pinxton return to victory.

Pinxton finally achieved that elusive win with a hard earned victory against a free scoring Calverton.

Manager Tim Graney had the luxury of recalling skipper Aden Flint back from duty with Alfreton Town & Gary Mayhew back from suspension to face a Calverton side that so far this season were averaging 4 goals per game.

With this in mind Pinxton fielded a strong defensive line up with Mayhew in mid field alongside Frazer Thomas & Jamie Renshaw protecting a back line in which Flint was partnered by the powerful John Robinson.

However, after repelling early pressure it was the visitors who had the better of the first half and it was only a breathtaking save by home ‘keeper Michael Randall from a brilliant Jay Cooper header that kept the scores level at the interval.

As the second half got underway it soon became apparent that full backs Joe Riley & Adam Robinson had been given the freedom to attack the flanks, and this bought it’s reward on the hour, when Thomas bravely won the ball in the middle of the park and fed Cooper who in turn released Riley down the right and his accurate long cross from the bye line was dispatched magnificently by Daniel Marriott at the far post for his seventh goal of the season.

Pinxton now had something to defend, and this they did with Flint & Robinson dominating everything in the air & Darren Bettison, as usual. covering every blades of grass.

As the game reached its climax it began to resemble two punch drunk prize fighters exchanging blows with chances appearing at either end, & Calverton thought they had stole a point in the dying minutes when Craig Boulton found himself in the clear only to be denied by the heroic intervention of Renshaw.

The home sides frustration at their first blank score line of the season became evident when winger Barry Payne was red carded after the final whistle.

Pinxton aim to gain revenge with a victory when Radcliffe Olympic are the visitors to the Welfare tomorrow 3pm.

PINXTON FC 1 v HARROWBY UNITED 3

                                                                                                                                 Cooper 9                                 Reidy 20,48.  Bolland 35

Pinxton seek elusive win.

Pinxton had only themselves to blame as they squandered an early lead against struggling Harrowby United.

After last weeks outstanding performance at the league leaders, nothing short of a victory was expected against the Lincolnshire side, and this looked odds on the as Jay Cooper spectacularly volleyed home his first senior goal following a controlled lay off from fellow striker Daniel Marriott.

Unfortunately, this relaxed the home side a little too much, especially as the visitors employed the divisions leading scorer Danny Reidy, and with mainstay Aden Flint away on duty with Alfreton Town the center forward was about to take center stage with two goals and an assist.

Both his goals had that element of luck about them but as all good strikers will tell you,’ you have to be in that position to score’.He certainly was for his first, ghosting around all alone at the far post to tap home from the first corner of the game on 20 minutes. This briefly brought Pinxton back to life and Joe Riley came close as his speculative header was cleared off the line. However the visitors were aware of the hesitancy in the home defense and took the lead on 35 minutes when Reidy’s angled pass allowed Simon Bolland to beat the offside trap and cleverly chip the stranded Martin Bowler from 20 yards.

Pinxton refused to lie down and deserved to be level at the interval after Frazer Thomas rattled the cross bar from fully 35 yards. The second half started with the home side on the back foot and only a fine save from the alert Bowler stopped them going further behind. However, they were soon to realize this was not to be their day when from the resulting corner Reidy found himself in acres of space and in an attempt to control the ball inadvertently scored…. As I said before ‘you have to be in that position!!’Pinxton never fully recovered from this and their fate was sealed in the last minute when Ben Marshall saw red as he mistimed a tackle on the wet surface and received a second yellow card.

With only two points from their last 5 games Pinxton seek that elusive win away at Calverton tomorrow 3pm.

HARWORTH CI 1 v 1 PINXTON FC

                                                                                              Dunning 52.                         Marriott 15.

Pinxton push leaders all the way

Only the width of the crossbar stopped Pinxton’s return to winning ways at high flying Harworth.

Both teams struggled to get any into any rhythm on a day [& pitch] that was more suited to Cricket than the beautiful game, however, the visitors, orchestrated by the ever vocal Tim Graney, settled the better and committed early pressure soon bought its reward.

Home ‘keeper Steve Wibberley under pressure from Jay Cooper could only half clear an intelligent lofted ball from midfield maestro Darren Bettison and the ball fell kindly to Daniel Marriott to drive home from 15 yards.

The visitors were now in complete control with Aden Flint & Ben Marshall dominant at the back, the fiery Frazer Thomas along with Bettison running the middle and up front Marriott was winning everything in the air whilst young Cooper remained a constant threat.

With clever use of a very wide pitch, wingers Joe Riley & Adam Robinson tucked in as old fashioned wing halves, allowing young full backs Liam Swain & Jamie Renshaw the freedom to overlap at will.

Unfortunately this exciting free flowing football couldn’t reproduce and the home side appeared after the interval to adopt Pinxton’s attacking formation.

Their reward came seven minutes after the break when Ryan Paczkowski forced an acrobatic one handed save from Martin Bowler diving to his right, only for the ball to fall to Shay Dunning to hit home from close range.

Not content with a point, the fresh legs of Mark Downing & Danny Evans were introduced and very nearly paid dividends as within the last 5 minutes both players fired inches wide before Downing saw a thunderbolt of a shot rebound off the underside of the bar …..Where’s a Russian linesman when you need one!!

Pinxton pledge to continue with their attacking style at home to Harrowby United this Saturday 3pm.

Pinxton were given an early indication of what to expect when they found themselves a goal down after only 80 seconds in their home game against an unbeaten Newark side.

The referees opening whistle had just ceased echoing as Chris Self fired home following some neat interchanges inside the Pinxton penalty area.

Despite this early setback the home side calmed themselves and produced some impressive attacking play with Daniel Marriott combining well with strike partner Mark Downing who was making his first start after a lengthy lay off.

However, it was the stylish Darren Bettison who bought the home side level on 38 minutes arriving in the area to head home a Downing cross from 15 yards out.

Pinxton failed to build on this despite creating further chances either side of the interval and found themselves behind on 54 minutes as Self pounced again, against the run of play.

The visitors were fortunate to be awarded a corner which was only half cleared allowing the striker to double his tally.

Coach Ian Comery shuffled his pack after losing the influential Danny Evans just after the hour mark and the remaining third of the game saw the home side camped in the opposing half, but they couldn’t break down a defense who have only conceded 3 goals this term.

Despite this set back Pinxton remain 3rd, virtue of games played & goals scored, but they face their toughest task when they visit league leaders Harworth this Saturday.

Flints late strike earns Pinxton point

A powerful headed goal 6 minutes from time from Pinxton’s captain courageous salvaged a point in a highly competitive game.

Aden Flint once again played through the pain barrier to raise high above the visitor’s defense to head home a Danny Evans free kick for his first goal of the season.

Pinxton had earlier taken the lead when, in the 32nd minute Daniel Marriott latched onto a defense splitting through ball from the impressive Darren Bettison to calmly slot home his sixth goal this term.

The home side looked in complete control heading towards the interval but the game was turned on its head less than 5 minutes before the break when Danny Tighe equalized from a very fortunate free kick.

This certainly spurred on the visitors and their early second half pressure was rewarded when Mark Carter forced the ball home from close range after 62 minutes.

Pinxton refused to lie down and deserved their share of the spoils and were indeed unlucky not to steal all 3 points with  Bettison & Marriott both forcing late saves.

Pinxton’s Olympic failure

High flying Pinxton contributed to their own downfall as they were bought down to earth by a very competitive & physical Radcliffe.

Pinxton started the better but had to reshuffle their midfield as early as the 11th minute as the influential Frazer Thomas limped off with a pulled ligament following a heavy challenge.

Worse was to follow as their usually solid defense uncharacteristically allowed winger Aaron Korol a free run on goal to fire past Martin Bowler.

Coming against the run of play this ignited the home side who went on to hit the post twice and only a brave diving save from Bowler kept the visitors still in the game at the interval.

The second half started with chances at both ends, but it didn’t take long for the visitor’s to realize that this was not to be their day. Winger Ben Smith’s fierce cross cum shot came back off the inside of Bowler’s far post only to hit the unfortunate Aden Flint who could only watch in disbelief as the ball flew into the net.

Gaps were now staring to appear in their defense as Pinxton chased the game, and they were lucky not to fall further behind as Radcliffe twice more hit the woodwork.

However, their luck ran out with less than 10 minutes to go when Ben Richardson found himself in acres of space on the edge of the box and he calmly placed the ball into the top corner.

Pinxton’s misery was complete in added time when substitute Lee Potts headed home from close range.

Pinxton hope to get back to winning ways in a re arranged home game this Saturday v Newark Town 3pm.

SOUTHWELL 3 v 6 PINXTON FC

                                                                             Barrowcliffe 12;                         Marriott 4, 21, 71

                                                                           Porter 57, Foster 80;                   Marshall 34, Thomas 27, Bacon 54.

Southwell hit for 6 as Pinxton go top

A large rain soaked crowd was highly entertained with nine goals in near monsoon conditions as Pinxton sailed to the top of the league.

The conditions certainly benefited the forwards as both defenses struggled on the slippery surface.

This was evident on 4 minutes, when Southwell ‘keeper Darren Sharpe couldn’t hold onto an intelligent low skimming cross from Danny Evans and was punished by the alert Daniel Marriott.

The lead lasted only 8 minutes as Southwell equalized when Barrowcliffe fired home from the edge of the penalty area.

This proved just a minor setback as Pinxton’s superb free flowing attacks tore Southwell apart with three goals in 13 minutes.

Marriott got his & Pinxton’s second on 21, turning in another good low cross from Evans, and just 6 minutes later Evans again was involved forcing a goal line clearance that fell to Frazer Thomas who reacted swiftly to score his first of the season.

Pinxton were now relentless, attacking from every angle and a fantastic 6 man move, built from deep, lead to Ben Bacon forcing a great save from Sharpe.

The resulting corner from Evans was headed home brilliantly by Ben Marshall from ten yards out.

As the second half started the rain relented, allowing both sides to show their attacking flair with chances at either end, and it didn’t take goal machine Ben Bacon long to get on the score sheet. A fine evasive left wing cross from Evans was well retrieved in the far corner by Darren Bettison, his accurate cross in turn found the head of Marriott who was denied his hat trick by an outstanding save, unfortunately for the ‘keeper the ball landed at the feet of Bacon who doesn’t miss from there.

Ben Porter kept the score alive firing home a fierce free kick from 25 yards that appeared to take at least three deflections before flying past the stranded Craig Rodgers in the Pinxton goal.

With 20 minutes to go Marriott finally got his deserved hat trick, cleverly turning in yet another fine ball from man of the match Evans.

Southwell claimed what turned out to be a consolation goal in the last 10 minutes, when substitute Foster forced home from close range an already goal bound strike from Porter.

Clipstone demolished as Pinxton bring home the Bacon

Pinxton’s goal machine, Ben Bacon’s return from injury couldn’t have been more emphatic, with three goals and two assists to completely blast away a bewildered Clipstone.

Tim Graney had certainly done his homework and his side attacked relentlessly from the start, and 31 minutes had passed before home ‘keeper Martin Bowler touched the ball, by which time Bacon had struck twice.

His first after 14 minutes was an individual effort down to sheer strength and persistence as he completely outwitted the experienced Allen Sellars 40 yards out to race clear and slot home.

The second goal on 27 minutes, however, was a brilliant team effort, starting with left back Andy Robinson winning the ball deep in his own half before feeding Danny Evans on the left, who after beating off the close attention of 2 Clipstone defenders tight on the touchline, somehow managed to find Daniel Marriott, who’s delightful chip released Bacon to excite the crowd with a carbon copy finish.

More goals were to follow, and Bacon was involved again, only this time his ‘assist’ was probably not intentional. An acrobatic overhead kick from a deep Joe Riley cross seemed the perfect way to complete his hat-trick, however, instead of finding the net he found Evans who’s finished superbly.

As the shell shocked Clipstone looked to the comfort of the half time dressing room, more punishment ensued, this time by new dad Marriott, who broke clear to add a fourth before being joined by his jubilant team mates in the Brazilian ‘Rocking Baby’ goal celebration.

The second half struggled to live up to expectations, save for Bacon, who was desperate to get his third & Pinxton’s fifth, this he did with 15 minutes left, beating the offside trap and again racing clear to complete his second hat trick in only his third game.

Pinxton’s Marshall guns down Blidworth

Click for Pictures

A brilliant volley by Ben Marshall late in the game was enough to secure the 3 points for Pinxton in an open entertaining game against Blidworth M W.

Pinxton quickly put the disappointment of Sutton behind them as early as the 5th minute when Daniel Marriott saw his downward header cleared off the line by Dale Crowder.

The visitor’s response was immediate and they too were soon to force a goal line clearance.

The ever alert Martin Bowler saved well from Richard Guest and from the resulting corner Aden Flint was perfectly placed to dispatch a Martin Williams goal bound header.

After the break only some fine work by Jamie Davies in the Blidworth goal denied Pinxton, getting down well at his near post to smother an accurate drive from Danny Evans and then bravely at the feet of Marriott.

As the game reached the hour mark the play really began to open up with chances at either end.

With the temperature rising both on and off the pitch spaces began to appear in the Blidwoth defence, this was exploited by the industrious Marriott who raced clear only to be brought down by the tiring Jamie Tagg, who was fortunate to receive only a yellow card after a consultation between the Referee and his assistant.

Marriott thought justice was done as he pounced to force home after the ‘keeper parried Marshall’s accurate free kick only to be denied by the same assistants offside flag.

The home side didn’t have it all their own way and only a brilliant save by Bowler on 73 stopped the visitors going ahead.

Just as we all thought that the ‘keepers would dominate, Marshall pounced. Evans swung in a high corner to the far post where Man of the Match Flint once again raised high above the rest to direct his header back to Marshall who fired an unstoppable volley past the helpless Davies.

Pinxton dug deep for this victory and hope for continued success at home again next Saturday when Clipstone are the visitors. Kick off 3pm.
