How you can help animal shelters

I decided to write this page for the people who want to help animal shelters, animal sanctuaries and animal rescue homes. You can do many things to help animal shelters and you don't have to take in an animal either. below I've listed some of my ideas that I've gained by working at an animal shelter, and some by surfing animal shelter sites. If you have anymore ideas of how to help an animal shelter e-mail me.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) The obvious one is make a financial donation to the animal shelter.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) Sponsor an animal. Basically you choose a permanent animal and give money to the animal shelter to help feed  and keep it healthy

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) Newspapers, animal shelters use it to lay on some cage floors.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) Blankets or towels these are used as bedding for pup's and kitten's.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) Offer your time as a volunteer helper walking the dogs for example.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) Organize a sponsored event i.e. walk, run, swim, dog walk etc.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) Sanctuaries can always use the help of an electrician, carpenter, builder etc.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) Any spare building materials, wood, nails, screws, bricks, cement, fencing.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) Animal sanctuaries always have open days offer to run the tea stall.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) Cages and kennels if they are in good condition animal shelters will have them.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) collars, leads, jackets, reins, saddles, animal toys, any thing like this in good condition will save them having to buy it out of precious funds.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) The best way to find out what they need is to ring them and ask.

WB01066_.GIF (242 bytes) Do you have a vehicle and some spare time some sanctuaries need this help to transfer animals and donated goods.

These ideas came from Nichole Linneman

1. Contact your local Vets and ask them if they would be prepared to devote some time to a shelter.

2. bake some pet treats. recipes are available on the net
