If you are coming to take a service, you should be contacted by one of the stewards in the weeks prior to the service to check whether you have any special requirements. You should let the steward know if:
- you need readers
- you have something specific for the choir
- you want music by the band
- you want to organise a drama
- you need something included in the weekly notice sheet
- you need some other printing - words of a song or a handout of some sort
- you would like to play a CD or tape recording during the service
In the week before the service you should be contacted by the organist to find out what hymns / songs you plan on including.
When you arrive, there will be a steward on duty to welcome and look after you. They should be able to answer any last minute questions you have. They will fit you with a radio microphone. then shortly before the service is due to start they will say a prayer before leading you into the church for the service. For a morning service there will also be a welcomer who will start the service by welcoming the congregation to the service and welcoming you.
We have two radio microphones and a number of stand and plate microphones which can be arranged as necessary. During the morning service we have an audio steward on duty who will manage audio levels etc. Playback of CDs or tapes through the audio system during the morning service can be arranged through the audio steward.
The church has an overhead projector and small screen (3 foot). It may be possible to borrow a 4ft screen if required and sufficient notice is given. Note that the best position for the screen doesn't allow it to be seen by the choir. If intending to use the projector it is best to ask the choir to sit with the rest of congregation. The church also has a data projector which can be used for computerised presentations.
You can find further details of the resources available on our resources page.
Our services usually start with at least some of the children and young people in with the rest of the congregation and we typically start with a time of all age worship lasting about 15 - 20 minutes. After this, the children and young people leave for their own classes and are dismissed using the prayer which is in the front of all the hymn books. We suggest you check exactly what is due to happen at your service as on occasions none of the children come in (for example when they are preparing a special service).
During the service, a steward will bring you a book listing the prayer requests of members of the congregation.
