EventsCan You Help?
Can you help Junior Church? - We have a super bunch of enthusiastic children and young people in our Junior Church and it is a great pleasure and extremely rewarding to work with them. The work is fun, however it does rely very much on regular support from and the commitment of our team of helpers and leaders. A couple of our Junior Church staff have recently expressed the wish to “retire” after many years of service within the department and we need to find people who are willing to replace them before the end of September. We currently have “vacancies “ for 2 leaders and 1 helper. Helpers are key to our work with the children as we need to ensure that, as a Church, we meet our responsibilities for Safeguarding Children. The roles of leaders and helpers does require a certain amount of regular commitment from individuals, however over the last few years we have introduced rotas to try to ensure that staff need only be available 1 week in three. If you would like to find out more about how we work or would like to join our team of helpers and leaders, or if you have any skills that you think may be of help to us, even if only on and occasional basis, then please contact either myself or Chris Ambler for an informal chat. We are also currently looking for someone to take over as our Junior Church Secretary. Is this something that you could help us with? If so please approach Margaret Brown or Chris. Thank you for your continued support and prayer for the work that we do in Junior Church. Hazel Meakin SUMMER HOLIDAY SERVICES - Between 27 July and 31 August the staff from Junior Church will be taking a well earned break from their normal Sunday morning duties and we are therefore looking for volunteers to help provide activities for any children who attend Church during the Summer Holiday Services. In particular we are looking for at least two volunteers to cover the following weeks: 27 July, 17, 24 and 31 August. Meryl Blackburn and Christine Sheard are preparing activities and materials for the services and so there will be no planning activities involved, just a requirement to look after the children and have some fun. ARE YOU YOUNGER THAN THE NHS? - Stockport Foundation Trust is celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the NHS with a service on Thursday July 3rd 7.30pm at St George's Church, Buxton Road, Stockport. Everyone is invited to attend the service. We are also looking for people who were born in Stockport, or started work in the NHS in Stockport in each of the years from 1948 to 2008, who would be willing to take part in a procession at the start of the service. If you would like to take part (or have a relative who would), please talk to Kate Le Sueur 427 5562 or kate@concretecomputing.co.uk CHURCH OPEN FOR QUIET AND PRAYER - If you were present at the vision day in January you will recall we talked about opening the church for quiet and prayer so anyone who wished could come in. We are going to try this on a Friday morning starting on May 2nd. We will have a couple of people there to steward. If you would be interested in helping with this please speak to Chris. OUR OUT-REACH COFFEE MORNING ON SATURDAY 12 JULY will be at the Senior Citizens’ Hall in the Memorial Park from 9.45am to 11.45am. The profit from this event, combined with the profit from the May Market will fund the £1,000 instalment, as part repayment of the £5,000 the Church borrowed from the Circuit to enable us to complete the building project. This is the fourth year of that effort. The stalls will include Country Fayre, Crafts, Books, Cakes, Videos and DVDs and a Tombola. Refreshments will be available on payment of 50p at the door. Once again, a table will be available in the Church concourse for donations of books, videos, DVDs and items suitable for tombola prizes. Donations of cakes, buns, scones etc., can only be made on the morning of the event. Please come along, and bring your friends, to support OUR church in this out-reach to the Marple community. All are welcome. LANDLUBBERS HOLIDAY CLUB 28TH JULY - 1ST AUGUST - Holiday Club Preparation. There are lots of things to prepare for the holiday club so we will be meeting to do this on Saturday 21 June, 10am-12 noon in the upstairs hall, Friday 27 June 10am-12 noon in Room 10. Please come and help if you can. We still need Pringles tubes, small cream cheese pots and boxes to make treasure chests shoe box size. We have enough cereal boxes, thanks. Please put items in the box in the concourse. PRAYER BOOK - If you are putting someone in the prayer book for prayer on a Sunday could you please indicate the connection, friend of ... or neighbour of … so we have a person to refer to if needed. Thanks SCREEN(S) IN CHURCH - The Church Council has been looking at the possibility of installing a projector and screen in church which we could use in worship or for other events. In the next few weeks we propose to try one or two things to see what people think. One of these is a visit to All Saints’ Church up the road to look at their system and its layout. This will be at 2.30pm on Sunday 22 June. Anyone who wants to come is welcome. If you would need transport please speak to Chris. YOU ARE INVITED TO AFTERNOON TEA THIS SUMMER at the Ridge Methodist Church, Hawk Green. These will be held on the Saturday afternoons of July 5th, August 2nd and September 6th between 2pm and 4pm. Tuesday 24 June at 2.30pm Opener: Miss Enid Shore Admission £1.00 which includes a strawberry cream tea. Various stalls including cakes, needlework, bric-a-brac and cards. As some of you may be aware, the Water Companies are ignoring churches charitable status and starting to charge Churches for the amount of area (i.e. roofs and car parks) that will collect rainwater and discharge it into the sewer network. This will effectively raise most churchs’ water bills by hundreds if not thousands of pounds. There is an online government petition at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ChurchWaterBills that you can register on. Please register and pass this information onto anyone else you think will sign it. The petition needs at least 15,000 signatories to be noticed and at present stands at 8,500 ! WHALLEY RANGE METHODIST CHURCH will be pleased to see any friends from Marple on Saturday June 28th at 7-30pm when The Dovedale Singers will be providing a musical evening - all are welcome. THANK YOU - The work on the school room building has now been completed at a cost of £20,257. We thank all the people who made extra individual donations to help to cover this cost and to the Special Efforts Team who provided £11,000 from the profit made on their fund-raising efforts. ROYAL EXCHANGE THEATRE , THURSDAY 3 JULY. - All the 52 people who have reserved places on the coach to the Royal Exchange Theatre to see “Hay Fever” by Noel Coward are reminded that the coach will leave from outside the church at 6.15pm prompt and the seat tickets will be given out on the coach. Gordon Greenwood - 427 3530 GIFT DAY will be on Sunday 13th July 2008. The proceeds will go towards the cost of the roof works - About £22,000 and the repair of the lift - about £2000. Both these necessary projects have severely depleted the cash reserves of the Church and we ask for your prayerful consideration in giving to these projects. The Finance and Property Committee would like to thank those who have contributed either time and/or money to the project so far - a display of the completed work is in the Concourse. ST ANN'S HOSPICE MANCHESTER MIDNIGHT WALK. Many thanks to all the people who sponsored us to complete the Manchester Midnight Walk last month.
