EventsLast Night of the Proms
Last Night of the Proms - Saturday 20 September at 7.30pm After the outstanding success of this annual celebration last year, we have secured the services of the same team of people for this year. The Hawk Green Brass Band, Kay Jordan - soprano, Alan Roscoe - baritone, Per Nielsen - piano and Richard Wright at the organ, will lead us in a wonderful musical evening, including all the Prom’s favourite items and a great deal of audience participation. Tickets, adults £6 and children (under 16) £3 are available in the concourse, or can be reserved by phoning Gordon Greenwood (427 3530). Reserve your tickets early - it will be yet another sell out! PRAYER BOOK - If you are putting someone in the prayer book for prayer on a Sunday could you please indicate the connection, friend of ... or neighbour of … so we have a person to refer to if needed. Thanks On 14 September we are launching some new ways to worship on Sunday evenings. We will start with a faith tea at 5pm moving into worship at 5.30pm for an hour or so of worship and prayer. For so long the church has been preoccupied with precision and perfection; our hope for the music on these evenings is to be free flow and a combination of songs familiar and unfamiliar (to the congregation and the band). Wouldn't it be lovely to learn music as a church and to own it together. Please come and join us. Amanda Brown HOME MISSIONS SUNDAY is taking place on 14 September. The Wellspring is the church's chosen charity for 2008/9 and John Hardy will be taking part in the service, telling us about the work they undertake. A collection will be taken which will go towards their activities. Margaret Riley, Home Missions Secretary. 3RD SEPTEMBER 2008 - LADIES’ AFTERNOON NETWORK have their first meeting of the season - why not come and join us at 2.30pm in Room 7. We meet fortnightly in fellowship, have visits from interesting speakers, a chat and the necessary cup of tea. Copies of the programme are in the concourse (green colour). Ann Bouchier (427 5257) will give you any further details. A warm welcome awaits you. ON 14 SEPTEMBER we are launching some new ways to worship on Sunday evenings. Plastic bottles are not part of the home recycle collection. Buy a plastic refuse bin, preferably one with clips that hold the lid on. Squash the bottles flat before you put them in. You will be amazed how many you collect and how light they are when you take them to the recycle centre. |
