"THE MOST IMPORTANT CHRISTMAS CARD YOU'LL SEND THIS YEAR. - Methodist Homes (MHA) are asking church members to write just one extra Christmas Card and share the joy of Christmas with an MHA resident. MHA have supplied us with special Christmas greetings cards so we can each write our own message of goodwill and friendship. There are greetings cards for grown ups and cards for children and they will pass ours on to MHA residents. Pick up a card from the concourse. This Christmas friendship appeal also provides an opportunity to make a donation to MHA to support their work in the care of older people. However MHA is aware of how much church members give throughout the year, so if you prefer just to send a Christmas greeting, that too would be much appreciated. Cards and donations should be handed to me by Sunday, 8 December. Alan Hooley (427 4772)

RAINBOW CHRISTMAS CONCERT 2013 Many of you will know that for a number of years the praise and worship band ‘Rainbow’ have put together an event at the start of Advent in an attempt to focus hearts and minds on the real reason for the celebration. Through traditional and contemporary song (with lots of opportunity to join in the singing), words and drama we explore the greatest gift of all – the gift of God’s own Son born to be our Saviour. The title for our event this year is ‘Lighting up the darkness’ and the theme is ‘Discovering the light of Christ in a dark world’. At a time when Christmas has been overtaken by commercialism and many people dread the stress and pressure let us share some of the love and the light of Jesus. The event will take place in St Chad’s Church, Church Lane, Romiley on Sunday 8 December at 7.00pm. There will be a retiring collection in aid of the Radio Manchester Christie Hospital Appeal. This is a project that aims to raise £1.3m to provide a mobile chemotherapy unit. You are warmly invited to attend what promises to be a very special evening once again. For more information please contact Derek Boulton 427 1117

TOY AND GIFT SERVICE - 15TH DECEMBER For this service, our children and young people are asked to bring ‘good as new’ toys and games which will be passed on to Mellor Country House. Because of the difficult times many of the visitors to Mellor Country House are facing, the charity wants to be able to offer a supply of basic foods to visitors. To help this local charity welcome, support and help needy visitors, members of our congregation are asked to bring to the Toy and Gift Service a gift of tinned or dried food (with long ‘use by’ dates). There is a list of suggested gifts on the concourse noticeboard. The manager and volunteers at Mellor Country House are very grateful to this church for our continued support. Thank you.
