About

The Society was formed in 1987. It started as a breeder and owner’s society but now caters mainly for pet owners. However, collectively, we have a wealth of knowledge. One of our members has qualified for Crufts Obedience Trials, others have done agility and mastered the art of trimming and showing their dogs.

Members who own dogs with health or training problems can ring or e-mail the secretary for help, or post their queries on our own chat forum, where other members will do their best to help. Otherwise, you can just simply chat about owning this special breed. See the Home Page for more details.

We send out 3 newsletters per year and all members can contribute to these. Everyone loves to read about the antics of this loveable but very mischievous breed. These newsletters enable us to stay in touch with one another, as some people cannot make our twice-yearly meetings because they live too far away.

Each summer we meet for a picnic. During the afternoon, the dogs can win rosettes and prizes for various things e.g. ‘the dog with the waggiest tail’.

We also have a Christmas party. The committee provides delicious homemade food, then afterwards we have games and competitions. Children and adults enjoy seeing the dogs in fancy dress. Musical chairs with the dogs is also a firm favourite. Above all, the emphasis is on enjoyment.

In between these meetings, we hold trimming sessions to which people can bring their dogs, to learn how to keep them looking smart. The Welsh Terrier is a trimmed breed, therefore it is important to get the grooming right. Otherwise, they end up looking like poodles!

Apart from these two annual events and our trimming sessions, we organise rambles from time to time.

We can also be found at Discover Dogs at Earls Court, in November, every year. Members of our club are on hand to tell you all about Welsh Terriers, warts and all.
