November 1979 New Opel Kadett-D range introduced in the UK. Transverse mounted 1196cc OHV or 1290cc OHC engine driving front wheels through 4-speed manual gearbox. Disc front brakes and rear drums, rack and pinion steering, independent front suspension and beam type rear suspension. 5-door L estate fitted with reclining front seats and headrests, integral front air dam, heated rear window with wash-wipe and cloth trim. GL hatchback fitted with quartz clock, door pockets, radio, velour trim, locking fuel cap and cigar lighter. March 1980 Vauxhall Astra introduced, identical to Kadett model but with minor trim and model designation changes. May 1980 5-door 1.3L hatchback introduced in the UK with engine and mechanical specification of 1.3GL hatchback. |
