Morrant Wey Valley Cricket League Cup Final (15 8-ball overs) Olinda Vandals vs Hersham On Wednesday, 12th July, local rivals Olinda Vandals and Hersham had to face each other in the Morrant Wey Valley Cricket League Cup Final. Hersham won the toss and elected to bat. On a damp slow wicket, it was always going to be difficult to score quick runs, but Hersham made a valiant effort and started at a brisk pace. Their only problem was that they were losing wickets. With good opening spells from Jon Powell (21 for 1) and Scott Baker (24 for 3) Hersham had managed 49 for 5 form the first eight overs. Further good support bowling from William Powell and Nitin Jagota restricted Hersham to just 95 for 7 from their fifteen overs. Olinda replied in double quick time, Rohit Jagota (39) and Dan Martin (38*) got the innings of in style, dispatching balls to all parts of the field in an opening stand of 62 that lasted six and a half overs. When Rohit was finally caught at deep mid-off, Vishal Razdan (13*) joined Dan Martin at the crease to finish off the run chase four balls into the tenth over. Olinda finished the game 96 for 1, picking up the Morrant Wey Valley League Cup for the third time in five years. This now sets up the chance for Olinda to have a double winning season, as they are currently sit on top of the Morrant Wey Valley League first division, in what could be Olinda's fourth consecutive championship winning season.
