Ecomemoria news - August 2008

A moving event took place in Brill on the 2nd February 2002. A tree, dedicated to the late Diana Svigilsky, was planted by Bernwode Amnesty Group as part of the Ecomemoria Project (http://www.ecomemoria.com) which commemorates the executed and disappeared of General Pinochet's Chile. All of those there remember that day, which is eloquently recorded in pictures and words on this website under 'Archive News: February 2002'.

This news update shows how, over the last six years or so, the oak sapling has grown into a vigorous and flourishing small oak tree. The surrounding protective fence has now been removed, and Diana's tree is clearly well established with a sturdy trunk and many strong branches, covered in rich foliage. In another six years it will have outgrown the protective hedge, which borders Diana's tree.

One item of sadness to record, however, is the death in October 2005 of Catherine Croydon, a co-founder of Bernwode Amnesty Group. She and her husband, David, made their land available for Diana's tree to be planted. Catherine's grave lies in the shade of Diana's tree.
