Soak the fruit overnight in tea. To the fruit and tea add lightly beaten egg and sugar. Sift together flour, spice and baking powder and add to fruit mix. Chop in butter, add sugar and mix well. Beat in eggs. Stir in all other ingredients. Pour into a 9-inch round, lined cake tin and bake at 350 deg F, 1 8O deg C, Gas Mark 4, for 2 - 3 hours. Check at 20 minute intervals after 1.5 hours. The 'wetness' of the boiled fruit is the cause of variation in cooking time.
