I purchased my new Logitech G25 wheel and pedal setup in February 2007. I initially fitted it to my BRD Race Frame Pro cockpit (RFP) using the standard steering wheel base supplied with the RFP, however this proved to be a bit small...

So, I decided to make a larger steering wheel base for the G25 so it would sit better on my BRD RFP Cockpit. I purchased some 18mm MDF, measured and cut it to suit. I wanted slightly rounded edges with a slight wrap around effect, just like you would have in a real cockpit. The design I ended with is pictured below.

Of course, I had to paint it red! (then add a couple of coats of varnish) to match the red frame and seat of my BRD RFP cockpit. I also added a black and silver (small factor, eg: no number pad) keyboard and a small (laptop) mouse, red again of course! The space to the left was left for two reasons, firstly so I can place the keyboard there and type, as my desk is to the left of the RFP and I often type stuff for this pc from the left. Secondly, I wanted room (on both sides) to place my flight sim hardware (Saitek X45 throttle unit and Joystick unit).

THE RACE FRAME PRO:


I bought my Ball Racing Developments (BRD) Race Frame Pro (RFP) in January 2003. Its the new improved version (v2) which has an extra monitor support loop, and seat adjustment. The total cost at that time was £399 including tax.

The RFP comes with useful instructions, and was fairly easy to put together. It took me about one and a half hours from start to finish to put it all together (on my own). The only tricky bit was figuring out how to install the seat runners to the frame and then attach the seat to the runners, as the instructions were a bit lacking in this one area. BRD supply two alan keys and a spanner, so you don't even need any tools of your own (apart from a philips screwdriver for two screws!)

Most bits just slot together and you tighten a few bolts. Once complete the RFP is adjustable in just about every way you could want to adjust it! The seat height and tilt, the steering column height and tilt, the pedal height and tilt, as well as the ability to slide the pedals and the seat in and out to varying distances from each other. This set-up should suit people of almost any size.

The whole kit oozes quality (as do both my Logitech G25 wheel and pedals and the BRD wheel and pedal set-ups). Everything is very well made and is very sturdy. The seat is an actual racing car (Cobra) seat and has the same sort of runner's for adjustment that you get in a real car. most adjustments are made by loosening butterfly type screws by hand, moving the FRP in or out as required, and then re-tightening the butterfly screw. All adjustment's usually only take a matter of a few seconds.
