Wednesday the 16th July 2008 saw the
launch of Wirral IAM's ground breaking new DVD.
The Committee was delighted to announce
in summer 2006 that we were awarded a grant from the “Awards for
All” body for the amount of £6500.
Previously we have been awarded £2080 in August 2003 and
£2125 in August 2004.
This was the largest grant the Group had been awarded and
represented a massive achievement.
We worked with “The Learning Lighthouse City
Learning Centre". The original idea was to produce a short 10 minute DVD film
about "Better Driving". However, with all the
hard work and support from their staff and the students
of Hilbre High it spiralled to produce over 45 minutes
of footage.
The Learning Lighthouse runs courses and activities for
all areas of the curriculum but specialises in
Multimedia, Digital Imaging, and Music Technology and in
particular Video Production.
We felt that by offering secondary school students from
the local community involvement in the production
process we would be making a
direct impact. Not only on road safety in the area but,
by offering these students a valuable educational
process, it would help them enormously in their career
prospects and life skills as young drivers.
Young people can offer so much to our community by
making them involved in a worth while project we will be
able to steer them in the right direction and enhance
the community in the process.
The Grant was used for the Pre-production –
planning, production of shot lists, liaising with third
parties, filming and Editing and DVD authoring.
It was also used for Production consumables and
finally to produce cover artwork for inlay, glass master
and press 1000 DVDs. Which were assembled in jewel cases
and will
be distributed freely to all the local schools, media
organisations and local community groups so that our
message reaches a captive audience.
By producing a film about “better driving” from the
younger audience we will automatically have reached a
group which have so far been difficult to target.
In kind, the Learning Lighthouse has matched funding
totalling £1550 which we are very grateful.
We are currently in the process of distributing the DVD.
