STARS Foundation
Award, October 2009
UK funding body Stars Foundation has awarded
grants of $100,000 (£61,320) each to five grassroots organisations,
including Mums for Mums, working in Africa and South Asia in recognition
of their work. The charity's Impact Awards were presented last week by the
London-based charitable foundation to projects which make a demonstrable
difference to the lives of disadvantaged children. The Protection Award was
presented to Ethiopian Mums for Mums for its innovative training programme which gives young women skills to earn a living
and break the cycle of poverty.
Teberah Inquai, founder and executive director of Mums for Mums,
who used to live in Cambridge, said: "If you educate a woman, you educate
a family. The Stars award will help Mums for Mums to expand the work it is
doing to empower destitute and vulnerable women to help themselves and their
families.”
