For some comments on the whole question of Acklam's trees
Middlesbrough is a post-industrial
town in the NorthEast of England. It has a charmless town centre,
but, to compensate, the town lies within easy reach of glorious countryside.
The Lakes, the Border Country, The Northumbrian Coast and the North Yorks Moors
are all within easy driving distance. There are many attractive market towns nearby and Whitby,
where Captain Cook began his seafaring career, is close by. And even the heart of the town centre
is undergoing a renaissance with a new art gallery, renovation of the rather splendid
victorian town hall (where most of the musical concerts from pop to classical take place)
and a re-landscaping of the open spaces that allowed the successful staging of
the BBC 'Proms in the Park' with the Northern Sinfonia Orchestra.
The view to the left shows the view of Acklam Hall in spring 2004. The Hall was built by the Hustler family
in the late 17th Century. The surrounding parkland and woods were laid out early in the 18th Century.

Acklam Hall. (This is not an Acklam 2020 site).

Acklam lies on the southern fringes of Middlesbrough. Before the growth of Middlesbrough
in the 19th Century, Acklam was the principal settlement, clustered around
an imposing manor house. Industrial Middlesbrough began its development
on the northern edge of the Acklam Estate, on the south bank of the Tees.
