1992/93

COMPLETE FIXTURE LIST

Panthers suffered a blow at the beginning of this season when the ice plant failed, ruling out home games for the first month of the season.
For the first time ever the entire import quota who had ended the previous season had been retained, initially at least. Of the British contingent out went Dave Graham and Stuart Parker, while in came Jim Graves and old boy Nigel Rhodes.
By mid November Panthers were in a slump. "We've lost a lot of confidence at the moment. We're allowing to many goals a game and getting into shoot outs that we're not winning. Scores like 9-9, 11-7 and 9-4 just aren't our style of hockey. I can't blame the defence and goaltending totally for that, cos it comes down to a team effort. But we're panicking right now instead of playing sound defence." (Alex Dampier 11/92).
By the end of December out had gone fan favourite and 91/92 star Dan Dorian. He was replaced by Selmar Odelein, a defenceman and ex Edmonton Oilers draft pick.
The biggest shock was the resignation of Alex Dampier, thus ending his seven year association with Nottingham. In came Kevin Murphy, an ex Ayr Bruin import and by reputation a strict disciplinarian.
Almost immediately Jim Graves had been released, to be replaced by Ian Young in the net.
At the end of January Chris Kelland was injured playing for GB and the BIHA allowed a replacement, Jaroslav Sevcik, a player in the Tim Cranston mould who had been playing in Holland. 6 weeks later he was gone, I don't know why? Steve Moria was signed for the play-offs as Swindon's season was already over.
Finishing a creditable 3rd in the league considering the stuttering start to the season, Panthers qualified for the end of season jaunt to Wembley. In the semi-final old boy Dan Dorian came back to haunt Panthers scoring 2+1 and having a hand in Hawks 5-4 overtime winner, even though Panthers had for long spells out played the Humberside team.
More shocks were to follow as seven days after the Wembley final, coach Kevin Murphy was fired.
