FIXTURE LIST
WITH LINKS TO MEMORABLE GAMES
This season marked Panthers first success in the silverware department
since re-forming in 80/81 season. The success based on the efforts of arguably the three
best import trio to date, Kurtenbach, Keyes & Perlini, as well as the British
supporting cast. Indeed Fred Perlini's season stats marked a record high for points and
points per game average in Panthers history to date.
Can there be anything in any sport to match the numbing tension of
sudden death in hockey? I think not, particularly when your team is one of those involved.
The explosion of energy from within me, and all around me, when the winning goal went in
was remarkable to experience. Once the initial euphoria had passed, our thoughts turned to
our friends from Kirckaldy. The depths of their disappointment must have matched the
heights of our elation. I'd sooner have beaten Bruins or Racers to win the cup. But then I
doubt if we would have been able to mingle with the opposing supporters, amid
congratulation and commiseration's, as we did last Saturday. I was glad Andrew Donald's
contribution to the game was recognised by his man of the match award. He kept Flyers in
it in the second stanza, pulling off several fine stops. Congratulations also to Terry
Kurtenbach for winning the Panthers man of the match. (Program Ed 22/11/86)
Here we are with our last game of the season. It seems to be just a
short while ago that we were heading for the Norwich Union final with Fife Flyers, a
memory I won't easily forget. Looking back over the season, there are many areas of the
team's development that are pleasing me. The most pleasing has been our ability to win
away from home, something we did very little of last season. This development has taken us
from just qualifying in sixth spot last season to qualifying in third. I think the season
so far has been successful. I hope you fans have enjoyed it as much as the players. The
next time we see you it will be play off time. Whoever we get, it's going to be tough -
nothing is ever sure in these series, except someone has to lose. (Prophetic words from
Alex Dampier
prior to the play-offs where we drew Murrayfield & Dundee again. Once again they
proved too strong, but not by as much as the previous year.)
