FIXTURE LIST
WITH LINKS TO MEMORABLE GAME SHEETS
The League structure this season is basically the same as 83/84, Bluecol
sponsoring the Autumn Cup competition and the Heineken Premier League expanded with the
inclusion of Southampton Vikings with promotion & relegation at the seasons end.
"I was really impressed; Panthers have some good talent from
England which is going to help tremendously. The team looks a lot better than last year
& hopefully the improvement will continue. (Greg McDonald 17/11/84).
As the season went on former star performer Jeff Andison was released when he
couldn't repeat his earlier feats, hardly surprising as the opposition was much
tougher. Steve Salter took umbrage at this and asked for his release also, which
was a pity as he had carried the attack almost single handed at times. Salter
left mid-way through the season for Dundee. He was replaced by diminutive flyer,
Jim Gauthier, himself released by Ayr, who did pretty well considering he had a
tough act to follow. Previous season's favourite Greg McDonald, finally
recovered from injury, replaced Andison.
Frank Killen was also unsettled and left for his homeland in the North East.
"On the way to pick up Tom Stewart, Dundee Rockets supremo, I had
to nip into the rink & you can imagine my surprise when I was greeted by at least
three people, Sunday 7am, asleep on the stadium steps & others propped up against the
entrance - all queuing for tickets for tonight match." (7/11/84 v Fife 7-7).
Secretary Richard A Butler.
"Last Saturday's match (7/11/84 v Fife) was Andy Linton's last
match for Panthers. For personal reasons - unrelated to ice hockey - he has decided to
return to Scotland, & so on behalf of the club I would like to wish him the very best
& remind him of his invitation to rejoin the team if he returns to the area."
Secretary Richard A Butler.
"With Jim "Boomer" Gauthier confirmed as the clubs third
import alongside Robin Andrew and Greg McDonald, &
the Killen affair now finally settled we can concentrate on making the play-offs.
(Unfortunately not to be.) Secretary Richard A Butler, 19/1/85.
I am sure you were as shocked as I was with the news of the resignation of Gary Keward,
Charles Walker & Sam Strachan. Manager, Chairman & Treasure resp. The debt the
club owes these men is enormous & it cannot afford to lose them. I personally was
delighted to see all of them at the last two home games, making me feel confident that the
loss of their expertise will only be temporary. Jack Hardcastle 23/2/85.
Tonight sees the end of a season that has been, to say the least, eventful. I'll leave
others to catalogue everything that went wrong. I prefer to look back at the positive
aspects of this thoroughly enjoyable season. Most notable has been the fact that Streatham
only beat us twice in six starts. There was Jim Gauthier's unforgettable goal at
Streatham. There was our first trip to Fife back in October. Beating Dundee twice, once on
the road, was great. Remember that 7-7 draw with Fife. We must not forget the tremendous
strides made by the other teams within the club, which has seen Junior players step up to
the Panthers: the future indeed looks secure. (Ed's Notebook 13/4/85)
