In the English League South and Ben Truman Southern Cup, losses to
Streatham pushed the team to runners-up spot in both competitions. Indeed the play offs
brought little joy with defeat in both finals to Streatham rubbing salt into the wounds.
At least the sensational defeat of Dundee provided an end of season highlight.
Off the ice, the death from cancer of former Panther Dave Webster, came
as a great shock to his many friends and supporters in Nottingham.
There was a certain amount of coming and going on the player front. The
departure of Terry Gudziunas was perhaps the stiffest blow the team was to suffer during
the year. Personal problems forced his return home, but we look forward to seeing him
return next season as player coach. He is to replace Les Strongman whose commitments do
not allow him to give the time he would like.
Clearly the dismissal of Randy McClinchey and departure of Jeff Andison, proved to be
an unsettling factor as the team pushed for the National League title. An indication of
Jeff Andison's popularity was given by his winning of the Football Post "Sports
Personality of the Year" award.
