Barry was
what is
euphemistically called a "Role Player". This means that he is there to
thump opponents should the need arise. I personally think such players can often be more
of a liability than a help, but he was a great fan favourite. He's not very quick or particularly
skillful. He was instrumental in Panthers turning a 1-3 deficit into a 6-4 win against the
Steelers, when he and several others were ejected from the game after an infamous bench clearing
brawl. He returned for 2001/02 when, with the addition of Clayton
Norris, his penalty total was greatly reduced. Panthers had an option to
resign him for 2002/03, which they duly did prior to the end of 01/02.
In 2002/03 Barry up his usual amount of penalties, but on many occasions
I thought the refs were penalising him for who he was, not what he'd
done. This version of Nieckar also more than doubled his points output
of the previous year. |
