Matt iced for the Cardiff Devils in 2003/04 and impressed in his games against the Panthers at the
NIC. Panthers were rather fortunate in obtaining the signature of this promising "Brit" for 2004/05,
but as he was due to start a course at Nottingham Trent University, Panthers were the obvious
choice. He had a pretty impressive season. Strong on the puck with good control he showed great
promise and was one of the best performers of the season. He was also statistically Panthers most effective face-off man.
Matt was one of the first to re-sign for 2005/06 season. He performed to the same high level as the previous year and while his points total was slightly down he certainly didn't let himself or the fans down on the ice. His face-ff winning percentage of 63% was outstanding. One of these days he is going to turn into a really good Elite League player IMO. I hope he is still with us when he does.
He re-signed for 2006/07 at the end of June. He remained one of Panthers better play-makers, but must be disappointed with his goals tally given his obvious ability with the puck.
His re-signing for 2007/08 was announced at the end of May, despite rumours of a return to Cardiff. As Panthers hadn't signed a recognised centre during the closed season, Matt carried a lot of responsibility throughout the season with some success.
Re-signed for 2008/09 late in April. Had a solid year and part way through turned full time pro. The benefit was obvious as his points output leapt.
Re-signed mid May for his 6th season in the black & gold. Hopefully now he is a full time pro Matt will realise his full potential. Sadly for Panthers he received an offer from Bakersfield of the East Coast League and was released to try his hand in North America. That would leave a big hole in Panthers Brit line-up.
