Greg, a fast skating right wing or centreman didn't particularly impress me during his first season with Panthers, but his second saw a dramatic improvement. Unfortunately for the Panthers he was injured in the run-up to the play-offs and missed the end of the season.
He started 98/99 on fire on a line with Paul Adey and Steve Roberts and led the ISL scoring at one stage. During the early part of the season he set a new record for goals in an ISL game notching 5 against the Bees. The line was unfortunately broken up when Roberts suffered a season ending shoulder injury. Not gifted with the best of "hands", Greg was a shooter and had an impressive slapshot.
On his return to the new arena in 2000/01 he appeared to have lost his timing and seemed short on confidence. Eventually he began to show some of his earlier form. Had he started the year the way he finished he would probably have at least matched his output of the previous year.
His points output was slightly up in 01/02, although he had a quiet time as Panthers disappointed in the play-offs.
Greg's final year before retirement saw him post a number of league records, which included most goals in Superleague competition and most games for one club. In early January Greg became one of the few players so honoured when he held a testimonial evening at the NIC, when a host of old faces turned out. Before the seasons' end his #11 shirt was also retired. In his final season he was still the team's 3rd highest scorer.
"The whole seven years for me has been a blast. Everything about it . . . the team, the city, the fans . . . have all gone to make it the best place I have ever played in."
