The Doc's first stint with Panthers was 88/89 and culminated in the Wembley
Championship win at the season's end. From the start the Doc was a revelation, regularly
scything through the oppositions defence to score. His slap shot from the point was
unerringly accurate and with Paul Adey picking up the rebounds the pair made a lethal
combination. Although the Docs defensive attributes were not as impressive as some
defencemen, his ability to tear through the opposition more than made up for any
shortcomings. In truth Doc was too good for the league in his first visit and he averaged
over 3.5 points per game, an astonishing return for a defenceman. He didn't return for the
following season. Rumor had it that he didn't see eye too eye with Alex Dampier.
Mike
Blaisdell signed the "Doc" up for season 95/96 and although the all around improvement in
the league curtailed his scoring exploits to some extent he still averaged almost 2
points per game. Unfortunately he damaged knee ligaments and missed quite a few games.
Needless to say his influence was greatly missed by the team. He went on to play for
Berlin Capitals in the DEL and represent GB. |
