#77 CALLE CARLSSON (Upper Official Site 1999, lower Chris Fielding 2001) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DOB: 2nd May 72 Birthplace: Stockholm Height: 6ft 1in Weight 14st 9lb | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Position: Left Defence | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Previous Teams: Huddinge IK (Sweden), Reims (France), AIK Solna (Sweden). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| IMO the most accomplished
of Panthers new recruits for 99/00. Not the most physical of defencemen Calle's puck control was sure and his reading of the game was second to none. He also possessed a fine slap-shot and used it to great effect on the power play regularly. Although made an offer to return for 2000/01 season, he went to Iserlohn in the German DEL. |

| He re-signed for 2001/02,
which compared to his previous season was disappointing. Although he was still one of Panthers better D men that year. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After spending 02/03 with
Sheffield, he returned once again for 03/04. For some reason his slap-shot seemed to have deserted him, but after James Morgan left he was one of only four D men and didn't miss a game all season. |

| Once again he re-signed for 04/05. He said: "Since first playing for the club in 1999, Panthers has always been the No.1 club for me and it would have taken a lot to make me move this time. There were other options, of course, but I now | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| regard the city as my second home and I didn't have to think twice about coming back. Besides, I've bought a house here and I'm getting married to a Nottingham girl next year so it was an easy decision to make. The supporters have forgiven me my one season as a Sheffield player and they welcomed me back last year for my third spell here." Although the season was a disappointment as Panthers suffered a host of injury problems, Calle was one of only three who iced in every game. He signed up again for 2005/06, this time under a returning Mike Blaisdell. He was unfortunate with injuries though and missed almost ten games through injury and played others when he shouldn't. As he was one of only three regular D men he carried a load when he did ice. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Toward the end of June 06 it was announced that Calle had been given an assistant coach role for the forthcoming season with primary responsibility for "spying on teams for upcoming fixtures and scouting players for the future, both home and abroad." He would also be available for emergency cover. At seasons' end Calle had to make way for the returning PC Drouin who would occupy the assistand coach role, while Corey Neilson would be responsible for player conditioning. The release was reported as being amicable and that Calle would continue to scout for the Panthers. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
