Rick Brebant joined at the start of 94/95 after being one of the leagues star players
for about a decade. His final seasons points total far outstrips his closets rival, who
incidentally was Paul Adey on 223 that same year. His assists total is even more
impressive being over 50 more than any rival in one season. Unfortunately Panthers
flattered to deceive in 94/95 after threatening to carry all before them.
At the seasons'
end Brebant, although mid-way through a two year contract, left to become player coach of
the newly formed Newcastle Cobras. Many Panthers fans felt rather like the jilted bride,
but the offer from Sir John Hall really was too good to miss. I personally shall remember
Brebant for the worry he used to cause me whenever Panthers played against Durham Wasps
throughout the latter end of the 80's and early 90's and the scintillating hockey he and
Paul Adey conjured up at times. Rick's UK career came to an end at the end of
2003/04, when he left the Manchester Phoenix at the ripe old age of 40,
to return to Canada. |
