A backyard observatory with a 3-metre dome and bi-parting shutters housing a Meade LX200 10" F10 Schmidt Cassegrain telescope. Designed and constructed by Peter Sullivan. Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, UK. This web site was created to provide information about the design and construction of a small astronomical observatory. The following web pages show what can be achieved by anyone with a desire to observe the wonders of the universe from their own back yard observatory. I am not an expert in the building of such unusual structures, but my training as a quantity surveyor and some knowledge of the theoretical side of building made the job a little easier. I hope that this web site may inspire others to tackle similar projects. For a complete overview it is suggested that the following pages be read in order; History > Pier construction > Base construction > Dome construction > Equipment. Most of the images are thumbnails which can be clicked to provide a larger more detailed picture. This web site is best viewed with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels.
