Gulls Slump To Fifth Successive Defeat Torquay United v Macclesfield Town
03-12-2001
The Gulls slumped to a fifth successive defeat against lowly Macclesfield Town at Plainmoor on Saturday. The Gulls fielding both new signings Gregory Goodridge and Jason Fowler once more failed to put their chances away and were made to pay when a rare Kevin Dearden mistake after 72 minutes resulted in Richard Lambert's match winning second goal for The Silkmen. The Gulls Kevin Hill had equalised an earlier Lambert goal during the first half. The result saw The Gulls slip to 22nd in the table with only Carlisle United and Halifax Town below them.

Gary Brabin - Released  Gary Brabin Leaves Plainmoor
03-12-2001
Gary Brabin has left The Gulls by mutal consent. Brabin has made use of an agreement with Mike Bateson and Roy McFarland that if he did not settle he would be allowed to leave. Brabin stated that his 'heart wasn't in the job', and that he has no problem with the club or the management. He had agreed to stay for the Macclesfield Town match if Jason Fowler's signing failed to meet Friday's noon deadline. Once the signing was complete Brabin's departure was made public. Brabin was sent off twice during his brief Gulls career at former club Hull and against Exeter City.

Gulls Sign Jason Fowler From Cardiff City Jason Fowler
03-12-2001
The Gulls also signed 27 years old attacking midfielder Jason Fowler on a free from Cardiff City late on Thursday night in a deal that will keep him at Plainmoor until June 2003. The length of the contract served to highlight the lifting of the longer-term contracts instigated by Mike Bateson last week when money from TV revenue seemed in danger. Fowler begun his career at Bristol City as a trainee, before moving to Cardiff City in 1996 scoring 20 goals in 151 apperances prior to illness and new expensive signings limiting his appearances in recent months.

Gregory Goodridge  Gregory Goodridge Returns To Plainmoor
03-12-2001
The Gulls re-signed Gregory Goodridge last Thursday from Bristol City. The club had been trying to get Goodridge to return to Plainmoor for some time, and finally got their man when Bristol City agreed to terminate his contract allowing him to re-sign for The Gulls who first saw him play against them 7 years ago when Lambada FC were pre-season opponents. Don O'Riordan signed the talented crowd pleaser who eventually left to join QPR for £100,000. Gregory is now looking forward to returning to regular first team football after being a fringe player at City.

Griffiths Captains Gulls Youth Team In Cup Listed - Graham & Bedeau
28-11-2001 - Match Result : Birmingham City 3 Torquay United 1
Goalkeeper Kenny Griffiths will captain the Torquay United Youth team in their third round F.A. Youth Cup tie against Birmingham City at Solihull Borough FC tonight. Griffiths the hero in two wins on penalties against Cambridge United and Purfleet in earlier rounds has been given the honour after previous captain Mike Williamson moved to Southampton and due to Tim O'Donovan his intended successor being injured. The Gulls are liable to field David Carns a 16 year old former WBA youngster who will sign Training forms for United just prior to the match.

Transfer Embargo  Bateson's Transfer Embargo At Plainmoor
28-11-2001
Mike Bateson today imposed what appeared to be an immediate transfer embargo at Plainmoor due to fears over TV revenue shortcomings in the light of the radical Pheonix League plans currently being proposed. Bateson has stated he would not "be prepared to sign any players on contracts that last beyond the end of this season". Manager Roy McFarland although unhappy with the decision understood the reason for it. Bateson did state that new players would still arrive though and that their could be some good news on this front tomorrow morning.
