Tamworth Taekwon-do
What our club has to offer.
The instructor of our club is Oliver Kells and he is a 4th degree black belt who has been teaching in Tamworth for 17 years. He also teaches a club in Stoke-on-Trent.
We train twice a week at the Lark Hall School in  Coton Green, Tamworth, on a Tuesday and Friday night.  Some of the Stoke students also join.
Today's world is full of violent attacks which are not always provoked, and many of these are against women. It is therefore vital for everyone to have some background knowledge of self-defense, and Tae Kwon-do provides this.
At the moment there are around 50 members of the Tamworth club, and this is rising continuously, and about just under half of all our members are women.
In the world of Tae Kwon-do, some say that women have an advantage over men. While men may have more upper body strength and therefore power, women are generally more flexible at the hip, and as they are usually a smaller build, they find it easier to become sharper and faster than men do.
I feel that the Tamworth TAGB club is very friendly. Everyone is always happy, and willing to help those who need it. In fact, I really look forward to my training sessions, and I think many other students feel the same. Students from the club often go to the tournaments, if not to compete, then just to support their fellow students. We also have quite a good winning record at these tournaments.  Including the current World Champion for Men's Black belt sparring team event and Men's individual welter weight. For a relatively small club, that's definitely not bad.
We don't just know each other at Tae Kwon-do, either. One of the girls celebrated her 21st birthday with a huge party and the whole club was invited. At Christmas, we break up for 2 weeks, without training. After the last lesson of the year, we all go out for a cheerful drink, and the first one is on Oliver!
Oliver Kells is a great instructor. He is what makes our club the special place that it is. He doesn't lean towards any certain aspects of training, but makes sure we get an even spread of everything. This way, we are sure we know all we need to, especially as our grading approaches. He is also very willing to give specific help to any of his students, and answer any questions or queries we have about any aspect of training.
I for one love the club I train at, as it is very easy to make friends with everyone there, and everyone is so helpful and friendly!
