LONLAS WI

meet in Trallwn Community Centre, Llansamlet, on the first Thursday of the month, at 7.00pm

This busy WI includes a choir, drama group and craft section. Their members are from several nationalities, from Welsh and English to Algerian French. Ages range from mid 40s to mid 80s.

They usually celebrate St Davids Day with cawl, and dress in Welsh costume; at Christmas there is always a Mince Pies and Carols night, with a sketch or short play, for which they make their own costumes.

Lonlas WI came second in the NFWI Wales 2003 Recruitment Award (for WIs with under30 members), with a 71% increase

The Banner depicts the old village of Llwyn Brwydran, with miners cottages, chapel and school, and it was made by two members when the WI was founded in 1955.
