LLANBLETHIAN WI
meet at Church Hall,
on the second Thursday of the month, at 7.30pm
They describe
themselves as a busy, "have a go at anything" group,
and they enjoy singing, taking part in the biennial WI Carol Festival
at St Davids Hall in Cardiff. They also enjoy walking, and have
a busy Craft Section, which makes things for "Operation Christmas
Child", as well as entering classes in the popular Bridgend
Show.
Their Banner
was made in 1973/4 for the Glamorgan Golden Jubilee, by Kitty
Gates, Mair Thomas and others. It is embroidered on a background
of grey Welsh flannel, which used to be manufactured in the village.
It depicts three cockerels, (part of the coat of arms of a village
benefactor from the 1600s), as well as a silver chalice of great
age, which was discovered in the Church crypt.
