  NFWI Programme competition
NFWI are looking for the most attractive and easily reproduced WI programme for 2010. This must be your WI's actual programme for 2010. Your programme is an essential part of your WI's recruitment kit. It needs to be lively, vibrant, and full of interesting information as well as offering a good and varied programme of events. It's your advertisement for your WI. Make it informative and convenient not only for your members but for anyone enquiring about WI.

The programme can be in any medium, size and style and may be computer, typewritten or hand generated. The winners of our Federation competition will represent Glamorgan in the NFWI Programme Competition. We are hoping for 100% entry from our Wls in Glamorgan - we want Glamorgan to win!

The closing date of the Glamorgan Programme Competition will be Friday 5 March 2010. Each WI entering must send three copies of their actual 2010 programme, along with a completed entry form. Don't forget - our WI Advisers are organising 'Perk up your Programme' workshops in early September.
"Are you sending a Delegate? We need to know News from Federation House
A reminder to WI Treasurers that there are only a few days left in which to send any outstanding WI subscriptions for 2009. Anyone wanting to join WI in August and September can attend as a visitor until October when 2010 subscriptions can be paid.

Is your WI sending a delegate to our Autumn Council Meeting? Every seat is precious so if you are not sending a delegate do please let June Humphry know. The Autumn Council Meeting will be held at Barry Memorial Hall on Monday 26 October. Our main speaker is the food writer, chef & broadcaster, Angela Gray.

There are still a few spaces left on our visit to Llandrindod Wells for the Federations of Wales conference. We are leaving Glamorgan on Wednesday 24 March 2010 returning on Saturday 27 March. Contact Carolyn Davies for more information or to book a place.
Need a speaker at short notice? News from ACWW
Need a speaker at short notice? Perhaps your WI collects 'Pennies for Friendship' or has fund-raised in the past for one of Glamorgan's special Associated County Women of the World (ACWW) projects. Find out more about the work of ACWW from Novello Peters
  News from Organisation

Now that the time of summer trips and outings has arrived it is important to remind Wls, both old and new, that their subscription entitles members to eleven free meetings per year with no extra cost entailed. So we must avoid combining a meeting and a coach trip, for example, by fixing both on the same day. In this case the old adage of two birds and one stone does not apply!

You will know by now that there is to be an NFWI Programme Competition in 2010. Your WI Advisors are in the process of arranging programme planning workshops to help you. They will be in touch with Wls in their contact areas to advise dates and venues.

The entry form for the PROGRAMME COMPETITION 2010 needs to be returned to the Federation Office in the New Year with 3 copies of your 2010 programme. The absolute final date for entry is Friday 5 March 2010. We are hoping every WI in Glamorgan will enter - we want Glamorgan to win!

News from Home Economics

Please don't forget that there is a Beginners' Flower Arranging class on Tuesday 8 September in Dunvant Social Centre. This is being led by our own, very talented Daphne Furneaux. Given the support we are getting for all our schools we expect this day to be a sell-out.

Know your Fats! Are you able to modify a recipe to make it healthier? Is traffic-light labelling a doddle to you? You could be just the person to win a competition showing how traditional tasty everyday dishes can be adapted to make them healthier. The judges are looking for a dish with low saturated fat content and low/medium traffic light labelling. The recipe may be either sweet or savoury, to serve 4 and cost a maximum of £6 for the reduced saturated fat version. Entries to be sent to NFWI Unit at Denman College where the best 3 from each region will be invited to cook at the regional final at Coleg Powys on Wednesday 23 September 2009. The prize is £50 of heart-healthy goodies to the winner of the regional final. Schedule and further information can be obtained by phoning June Humphry at Federation House 01639 881588

News from Combined Arts

Most of you will have received the massed rehearsal date and the list of carols. Music is available for collection from Federation House or from Win Gronow. We are looking forward to seeing you all again on Thursday 24 September 2009 at Ebenezer Chapel in Port Talbot. We would all be delighted to see new faces and if any members of the newer Wls or, indeed, any WI would like to know more about taking part in the Carol Festival please contact Win Gronow.

News from Denman College

Denman College Committee has agreed to extend the range of the Long Distance Travel Fund to include Glamorgan Federation with immediate effect. The purpose of the fund is to help members travelling long distances to Denman College. The College will pay £25 towards the journey if there are three or more members sharing car transport to open courses. Members will just have to complete an application form on arrival at the College to claim this amount.

In view of these changes it is important to send the postcards (given in your Denman pack) to your Denman representative, Margaret Rogers. Margaret can then contact members attending the same course to see if arrangements can be made for them to travel together.

MCS new members' packs

When a new member is entered on the MCS it is vital that her joining date is put on to her record. Without it she will not be sent a new members' pack.

Please do not tick the 'sent pack' box in the member's record. This is automatically ticked when their label has been printed to send by NFWI.

New members are identified on the MCS by NFWI every Monday. If possible, please add new members by that day to ensure that they get their pack as soon as possible. New members will only be selected for the pack if their joining dates are within the past 3 months and the 'sent pack' box has not been ticked.
