Thursday 12th March at the Grand
Theatre in Swansea.
There
were 241 people at this exciting event, a follow-up to last year's
successful 'Winning The Prize', including the Judges and Pam
Dinham, Federation Chairman as well as Dianne Sanderson from NFWI Unit.
The Rose Bowl was won by Tonteg WI with 144 ½ points. Four institutes took part: Port Talbot, Catwg and Margam and all the displays were commended by Angela Bending (Staging Judge) for their high standard.
The Brecon Cup was won by Ann Evans from Margam WI with a beautifully executed interpretation of Fire & Ice.
Gloria
Jones (Port Talbot WI), Leslie Griffin (Llanrhidian WI), Andrea
Alexander (Llangennith WI), Jeannie Hainsworth-Lamb (Tonteg WI) and Kay
Beynon (Llanddewi with Knelston WI) took part in the highest
participation in the competition for years.
Frances Cheley (Floristry Judge) was very complimentary about the
standard and interpretation of all the exhibits.
All
the Judges were very positive in their comments and look forward to
next year’s competition.
The
performance of Fire & Ice by Cirque de Glace was a fitting and apt
way to end the day’s proceedings, given the theme of this
year’s competition.
The Home Economics’ and Crafts’ sub-committee wish the
winners of this regional heat every good wish for the National
Competition at the Royal Welsh Show.
