Associated Country Women of the World

ACWW's Aims & Objectives:-

To raise the standard of living of rural women and families through education, training and community development programmes.

To provide practical support to its members and help them set up income-generating schemes.

To give rural women a voice at international level through its links with UN agencies. For more about ACWW, click to go to their website.

GFWI is affiliated to the ACWW, and is proud to assist with many fund-raising projects. In past years we have made the "Cookie Crumble", and "Raised the Maize" ... this year's project is Sow and Grow

.... supporting a Seed and Food Security Initiative in
Zambia. The main purpose is to train the beneficiaries in farming and
livestock rearing, to empower and educate the participants encouraging them
to become self-sufficient in order to generate their own income to pay
school fees and cover other household needs. As many as 380 people in
total will benefit, including members of women's groups, orphans in the
community, the aged and households headed by women.

We need to raise £2,415. The suggestion is that we raise this money by
planting seeds, growing plants and selling them at plant stalls within
our WIs, hence the title "Sow and Grow".

Of course, this is only a suggestion and if individual WIs would like to raise some funds in other ways towards this project we would be more than satisfied. One Glamorgan group has baked cakes and sold slices at their meetings instead of the usual biscuits, and raised over £80... see what other clever ideas you can think up!

Please help us
reach this target as soon as possible. Further information can be obtained
from Sylvia Davies or Novello Peters and any monies raised should be forwarded to Federation House
and made payable to "ACWW".
