“We are therefore Christ’s Ambassadors”
2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)
“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood”.
John 1:14 (The Message Bible)
Since its inception in Ipswich in June 2006, Town Pastors has grown considerably and schemes are now running in a number of other towns in Suffolk.
As to the effect of this scheme, that is perhaps best answered by others.
“The fact that there is in the Town a group of people who provide care and assistance to those who may be temporarily vulnerable is a huge help to my staff, who can then concentrate on their key role.
On behalf of my staff, can I thank all the Town Pastors for their help, enthusiasm, and commitment in their role, which we all hope will long continue.”
Mark Cordell, Chief Superintendent, Eastern area Commander
“As you are all aware some people, not necessarily young, put themselves at risk without realising. The 'night time economy' is a relatively new  expression but this is when people are at most risk and can find themselves in a potentially dangerous situation.
The work of the Felixstowe Town Pastors, as I understand it, is that they will work with and support our Safer Neighbourhood Teams in order to give assistance and encouragement to anyone who finds themselves in such a situation.
I would like to say, that in my opinion, this initiative can only be an advantage to and good for Felixstowe and the community as a whole and I wish everyone connected with it success and that positive results will be achieved.'”
Angel Goodwin, Mayor of Felixstowe
Feedback from volunteers:
"I was very anxious before going out for the first time, but within minutes I knew it was going to be so rewarding and worthwhile. I loved it; people were so receptive and we were able to defuse several situations (with God on our side!) that could have got nasty and most likely would have ended in arrests. Can’t wait for my next shift!”
Tracey Town Pastor (Ipswich)
“How could I ever have thought that I would feel so tired and find it tough going!!. A wonderful action packed, prayer packed night -- overwhelming to see God at work at ground level in such a tangible way. My whole Church had to hear about it on Sunday morning, but I was so excited I talked too fast!!”
Janet Prayer Team member (Felixstowe)
“I really felt the presence of God in our interactions on the street (not sure how the others felt. ... by 4am I was not coherent enough to explain!)”
Louise Town Pastor  (Felixstowe)
"We were asked three times in one night if our caps were available to purchase or for sale on eBay. Everyone was fascinated to know the significance of the 'fish' logo - not merely a fashion statement but the ageless street symbol of Christians!"
Steve Town Pastor (Ipswich)
