Since its inception in Ipswich in June 2006, Town Pastors has grown considerably and schemes are now running in a number of other towns in Suffolk.
As to the effect of this scheme, that is perhaps best answered by others.
“The fact that there is in the Town a group of people who provide care and assistance to those who may be temporarily vulnerable is a huge help to my staff, who can then concentrate on their key role.
On behalf of my staff, can I thank all the Town Pastors for their help, enthusiasm, and commitment in their role, which we all hope will long continue.”
Mark Cordell, Chief Superintendent, Eastern area Commander
Feedback from Ipswich Town Pastors:
"I was very anxious before going out for the first time, but within minutes I knew it was going to be so rewarding and worthwhile. I loved it; people were so receptive and we were able to defuse several situations (with God on our side!) that could have got nasty and most likely would have ended in arrests. Can’t wait for my next shift!”

“I found the verses and supporting prayer points very useful as a focus through the hour! There was a real sense of supporting the pastors as part of a prayer team even though I was praying at home.”
Jonathan Prayer Team member
"There were four of them, looking for trouble, squaring up to the door-staff, outside the nightclub. We were asked to defuse the situation. Two accepted our offer of chocolate and to talk; the other two didn't. But we chatted and offered to call them a taxi and by the time it arrived all four thanked us. So did the door-staff and the police."

"We were asked three times in one night if our caps were available to purchase or for sale on eBay. Everyone was fascinated to know the significance of the 'fish' logo - not merely a fashion statement but the ageless street symbol of Christians!"
