The urban rock of 'Crash by Design' came as a reaction against the somewhat rose-tinted comfort zone that existed within folk clubs during the late 1980s and early 90s. Hence, 'The Smuggler' gives a contemporary twist to a traditional folk theme. 'The Professor' follows the drugs story, in the form of a rather tongue-in-cheek look at an academic's extra-curricular activities.
CBD lyrics often addressed controversial subjects. But the band also exhibited a strongly ironic streak. 'The Tree' is a pastiche of psychadelic music.
I still believe that Crash by Design was ahead of its time and represented a very creative musical period. I worked with some very talented musicians:
Ian Bradford: electric guitar;
Paul Hobday: drums;
Warran Lineton: bass.
(Where are they now?) So, I have attempted to rescue some rather poor quality recordings - the only ones we made - off a tape. Reforming CBD has also been suggested on several occasions....
