Under 11 Champions again !!!!
As most will know now our Under 11’s team won the Cheshire League for a record 7th consecutive year. This was an amasing performance. In the last meeting our athletes scored a massive 117 points out of a possible 120.
The day was topped of with both the Mens and the Womens team winning their match to give a clean sweep on the day. If the number of athletes that turned out on the day had been repeated throughout the Summer our teams would now be celebrating winning both the Cheshire League and YAL Leagues, but for whatever reason they didn’t and we are not. Lets hope for better next year.
The following day we ran our own Triathlon Meeting which I think you will agree was a great success. Results can be viewed at:-
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/peter.hallam3/tri09.htmClub Records have been falling throughout the year and all those athletes (Under 17 and below) who have retained their record until the end of the season will receive a commemorative trophy at the Annual Presentation and Disco.
The Annual Presentation and Disco takes place at the Masonic Hall in Farnworth on Friday 6th November. Tickets will be on sale (£2 for Under 17’s and below £3 for all older) shortly but be warned numbers are limited and we have a lot of Under 11 athletes looking to pick up their trophies for winning the Cheshire League. We also present an Under 11’s Sports Person of the Year. Votes have been cast and the winning athlete decided. Will it be you? This award does not always go to the athlete that wins all their races but can be awarded to a great team player, sportsman or helper. Are you that athlete. I can guarantee that the winning athlete is always surprised. As last year there will be a hotpot and disco as well as the presentation.
Salford Mets under 13 girls took part in the North West road relay championships in Blackpool on Saturday 19th September taking on around 30 of the top teams from Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside and Lancashire. Teams of three tackled a 2000m course and we had three teams entered.
On first leg Lucy Whittaker (8th) and Robyn Saunders (9th) ensured that their teams were in contention at the end of leg one. Lucy and Robyn paced their efforts to perfection running against many of the regions top runners. Kelly Lowe also ran well leading out the C team.
On leg 2 Lucy handed over to Megan Lowe who glided majestically through the field bringing the A team in 4th, hot on her heels was Charlotte Simms looking equally impressive who stormed the B team through into 5th position. Abigail Casson battled hard for the C team maintaining their progress.
The anchor legs were run by Hollie Barnes, Jessica Powell and Hannah Powell respectively who all set off at a frighteningly quick pace. Hollie taking over around 20 seconds down paced her leg to perfection latching onto the medal positions as the athletes entered the track for the final sprint and sprinting past her rivals to head the field about 5 metres from the line. Jessica who had been suffering with a cold all week also ran well to finish in 8th place. The fastest finish of the day had to be Hannah Powell’s who completed a good days work for the team.

Well done girls on a fantastic result in your first ever road relay and even more impressive considering the majority of our team will remain in this age group next year, bring on the Northern Champs!!
With the track season almost at an end the opportunities for gaining times etc for achievement awards are almost at an end. We seem to have handed out a record number of awards this year. Well done to all. We have had 3 athletes this year who attained Platinum Status and they will receive their award at the Annual Presentation. For those years 2, 3 & 4 who have not been able to gain an award this year, don’t worry there will be plenty of opportunity next year.
The Cross country season is already upon us with the first race of the SE Lancs League taking place on Saturday 26 September. Those interested in running should see Mike Lucas or Debbie Hulme.
