(incorporating the 49th Under 11 Newsletter)
Under 11 Cheshire League Champions 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 ; 2007 & 2008 & Womens Cheshire League Champions 2006

Happy New Year. First of all please accept my apologies for the 11 month gap since the last newsletter which have been caused by pressure of work etc. I would however advice that the clubs website has been kept up to date during this time and will continue to be so.

Under 11's have had a Winter break from trying to attain standards for the Achievement Awards, however, these have now commenced again. To see how close you are to achieving the award view the web pages The address is http://homepage.ntlworld.com/peter.hallam3/perf4.htm If any new members want any more information on these awards please ask Peter. They are worth having as recipients receive an engraved Trophy and a specially designed baseball cap which will keep you dry during our Winter training sessions and shade you from the Summer sun. (if we get any)

Organising teams for the track season also takes a lot of organising and hence we must start thinking about this as early as Jan/Feb.

Our Under 11 athletes compete in the Cheshire Athletics League. This involves four league meetings per year. Meetings take place on 4 Sundays, at various venues, between April & September (exact dates below) .  The under 11 age group have their own competition running parallel to the older athletes and as most of you will know we have been the Champions for the last 6 years.   For those Under 11's who have never attended an athletics meeting (and I know there are a lot of you) I would like to say that there is nothing to worry about. We go as a team and have a really fun day whilst at the same time putting in performances that do justice to all the hard work you have put in over the Winter and Spring. And don’t forget each event you compete in counts towards the Achievement Awards. If you have any questions please ask Peter or Tony or Scott or Eddie.

The Under 11 team is always pre selected but that does not mean that those not selected cannot run. You can still be part of the team and compete in non point scoring races. That does not mean that your performances are unimportant because the team does change from meeting to meeting as we assess performances and a large team is essential to cover those athletes who miss a meeting through holidays or illness. The first race starts at 1pm and athletes need to arrive 45 minutes before these times so that we can declare the team and athletes have time to warm up.  To compete in the Under 11 age group children must be members and must be Under 11 years of age as at 1/9/2008 (School Year 5 or under) and must be in either Year 4 or Year 5 at the start of the track Season (March 2009)

The Under 11’s compete in the following events :-
75 metres - 4 scoring athletes for both boys and girls
Long Jump - 2 scoring athletes for both boys and girls
600 metres - 4 scoring athletes for both boys and girls
Turbo Javelin - 2 scoring athletes for both boys and girls
4 x 100m relay for both girls & boys

All athletes must wear Club running vests. These can be purchased from Alan Cooper (2008 price £6.50). A fee of £2 per athlete is payable to the host track. Transport can be arranged. Children travelling without their parents may only do so with their parents written consent. We would however encourage parents to attend to give encouragement to the athletes. If you are interested in competing for the club in the Cheshire League please complete the following form so that we can ensure you receive details nearer the time. Please hand the completed form to Peter or Tony or Scott or Eddie.
