This outstanding Victorian mahogany fire surround with combined overmantle was badly damaged when on Christmas day a scented candle in a glass jar became overheated, cracking the jar and then erupting into flames catching the woodwork alight causing deeply charred burns with the resulting heat cracking the bevelled mirror.
This needed to go to our workshops for repair
First we completely replaced the burnt bottom section and the shelf, then colour matched and french polished the new wood. After cleaning smoke off the whole surround and once a new mirror was ordered and fitted the mantle was back to it's former glory.
