History of Valiant - The Early Days

The engine was converted to a showman’s and in 1920 she was bought by Pat Collins of Bloxwitch and given the name "Dreadnought". The engine was fitted with a crane turret on the coal bunker by Openshaws, which we still have, and a Maudsley dynamo of 300 amps at 110 volts.

Pat Collins used the engine mainly on his number 2 scenic ride, "Dragons and Peacocks", and a "Mont Blanc" ride, while as late as 1952 she was powering "Dodgems". She was lucky enough to be kept by the Collins family and worked until the early fifties when she was sold out of showland and into preservation,

Around this time, the engine had several owners, and attended the 1964 Shottesbroke Great Steam Fair under the ownership of Mr. Arthur Dark of Felstead Essex, and bore the name "Goliath".
