Cadaver Tombs

Cathedral Church of St Mary the Virgin, Truro, Cornwall.

Monument to John and Phillipe Robartes. Cathedral Church of St Mary the Virgin.

The Effigies on this monument are laid in the traditional "Toothache" position of resting on their elbow with the hand supporting the head by cupping the right cheek. Though not strictly a cadaver monument this has been included because of the figure of "Death with his dart" at the top right hand section.

The other side has a well fleshed figure of the reaper with his scythe. The figure of Death is skeletal and has on a flowing shroud draped from the head. He carries his dart with which he delivers the "Mortal Blow"
