The Earl is in his Garter Robes and lies on top of a large black slab resting on the shoulders of four of the Cardinal Virtues, Prudence, Justice, Fortitude & Temperence.

Beneath on another black slabis the symbolic message "that all men end the same way." A skeleton lies on a straw pallet. The monument was made by Maximilian Colt at a cost of 460. This was more than the cost of the Mortuary Chapel in which it stands!!
