Every language has its own rhythms.
At birth we have the capability of learning
any vocal pattern, but this soon disappears as we acquire the
rhythms and patterns of the language we hear.
‘Because English is not
my first language, others find it difficult to understand me’
- Even if you are fluent in English,
your pattern of speech may still be that of your first
language.
English
consonants need to be crisp, and some vowel sounds may be
unfamiliar to you.
Jaw tension
will have a negative impact on your ability to articulate
clearly, so it is important to understand the reasons for this
and practise exercises to keep the jaw flexible.
By learning how
sounds are formed, you can alter and improve those you find
difficult, so making communication more effective.
Speaking more
slowly will help make your speech clearer, raise your
confidence and improve your performance at work.
