Breath is fundamental to voice production.

If you run out of breath, you run out of voice.

‘I often run out breath before the end of a sentence’  It is very tempting to try to say too much on one breath.  In everyday situations, we don’t even attempt it: we breathe when we feel the need.

When we are under pressure or nervous, we become tense; the shoulders rise, constricting the movement of the rib cage, and therefore the supply of breath we need for speaking.

By learning simple ways to alleviate tension, and maintain good postural alignment, the breath can flow as it needs to, and power the voice.

Tuning into, and using more effectively the muscles we use for breathing, will also give more control over the way you use the breath, and increased confidence knowing that your voice will not fade away before you have finished speaking.
